Pricing guide

How much does coach hire cost in the UK?

Coach and minibus hire is quoted per vehicle for the whole journey. This guide explains what moves the price, what is already included, and how to get a fixed written quote for your group.

What sets the price

Distance and total time

Coach hire is priced on the whole job, not just the miles you travel. A 40-mile transfer that keeps the vehicle and driver waiting all day costs more than a 90-mile one-way run, because the driver's legal hours are committed either way.

Vehicle size

A 16 seater minibus, a 33 seat midi coach and a 57 seat touring coach have different running costs. Booking one correctly sized vehicle is almost always cheaper than two smaller ones, so tell us the real passenger and luggage count.

Date, time and season

Weekends, bank holidays, school-trip season and the December party period are the busiest windows. Booking earlier for those dates gives you more vehicle choice at a better price.

Driver hours and overnights

UK and EU drivers' hours rules cap how long a driver can work. Long days may need a second driver, and multi-day trips include driver accommodation — both are shown in the quote rather than added later.

Route costs

Congestion charge, ULEZ, airport entry fees, tolls, ferries and parking apply to the vehicle, not the passenger. We include these in the written quote so the figure you approve is the figure you pay.

Empty running

If a coach has to travel a long way to reach your pickup, or return empty afterwards, that mileage is part of the cost. This is exactly what our return-journey listings remove.

What is included in a Sky Coaches quote

  • A professional, licensed and DBS-checked driver
  • Fuel, insurance, PSV-compliant maintenance and vehicle cleaning
  • Tolls, congestion and airport charges quoted up front
  • Fixed written price — no per-passenger add-ons

What is not included

  • Attraction, event or venue entry fees for your group
  • Meals for the group
  • Extra stops or hours added on the day, which we confirm in writing before running

The cheapest way to book a coach

When one of our coaches has already been booked for an outbound trip, the return leg would otherwise run empty. We list those legs publicly at a reduced price. If your dates and route line up with one, it is the lowest price we can offer for the same vehicle and the same driver standard.

Coach hire cost — frequently asked questions

How much does it cost to hire a coach for a day in the UK?
Day hire is priced from the itinerary rather than a fixed rate card, because distance, vehicle size, date and driver hours all move the figure. Send your pickup point, destination, times and passenger count and we return a fixed written quote, usually within one working day.
Is a minibus cheaper than a coach?
Per vehicle, yes — a 16 or 19 seater minibus costs less to run than a 49 to 57 seat coach. Per passenger it is usually the other way round, so for groups over about 30 a single coach normally works out cheaper than two minibuses.
Do you charge per person or per vehicle?
Per vehicle. You hire the coach and driver for the journey, so the price does not change if a couple of passengers drop out.
Is a deposit required?
Yes. Bookings are confirmed with a deposit and the balance is due before travel. The exact deposit and payment terms are shown on your quotation before you accept it.
How can we reduce the cost of coach hire?
Be flexible on dates, book early for peak weekends, keep the group in one correctly sized vehicle, use a single pickup point rather than many, and check our return-journey listings — those are discounted because the coach is already making that trip.
Are quotes free and how long are they valid?
Quotes are free with no obligation. Each quotation shows its own validity period, and we will tell you if availability for your date is moving quickly.
